Maoists vandalise Kurub panchayat office in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: Office of the Kurub panchayat under Kalimela police limits in the district was ransacked by Maoists today.

Sources said as many as 25 Maoists broke open into the panchayat office and damaged TV set and furniture provided to villagers by the police.

The incident is considered to be a fall out of the surrender of villagers before the district police and arrest of 12 ultras a few days back, sources added.

On December 27, the Malkangiri police had arrested the 12 ultras after carrying out combing operation at several places in the district.

During police interrogation, the arrested Maoists revealed that they were involved in the recent murder of three persons in the district.
