Maoists torch contractor camp in Jeypore; one killed

Jeypore: Panic gripped Sorisapada area under Patangi police limits here after a group of Maoists set a private contractor camp on fire late on Friday night.

According to sources, a person was also killed in the attack. The deceased has been identified as Jayaram Silo of Bhitarakata village.

The ultras also torched two hiwa trucks, a Hitachi machine, a tractor and a tipper of Tara Tarini construction company, sources added.

Swaraj Sahoo, managing director of Tara Tarini construction company, said, "The Maoists abducted 10 staff around 9.30 pm yesterday and later released them in the wee hours of today. Since last one and half years we are carrying out construction work there, but such thing never happened earlier."

Notably, a road was being constructed from Sorisapadara to Bhitarakata.
