Malkangiri: Maoists’ threat continues to haunt people in the tribal areas so much that every other day people run away to safer places to live or are threatened to vacate their villages. A youth who also fled Luchapani village in Chitrakonda of the district on Saturday is just an addition to the growing number.

Few days back, the red rebels had called the youth Pilku Khara, and asked him to join their group and assist them.

After Pilku refused to cooperate with them, he was asked to vacate the village. They even threatened to kill him as a mark of punishment.

Left with no other option, Pilku was forced to flee the village. Sources said he has now moved to Chitrakonda leaving behind his mother, wife and son in the village.

Later, the ultras threatened his family in the Praja Court and asked them to vacate the village soon.

Apprehending further problems, Pilku said he has planned to bring his family to Chitrakonda to stay with him.

“Eight days ago I was called by the Maoists. They asked me to help them. After I refused, they threatened to kill me. So I left the village,” said Pilku.
