Bhubaneswar: Observing a bandh in five districts of the State today, Maoists killed a villager of Lahidi village located in the border between Kandhamal and Kalahandi.

As per sources, Maoists killed Mohan Majhi, suspecting him to be a police informer. Villagers said that a group of armed rebels had arrived at around 1 am and forcibly took away Majhi and killed him this morning.

The ultras also allegedly abducted a woman suspecting her to be a police informers from the village during the bandh. Her whereabouts are yet to be known.

On the other hand, vehicular movement has been affected in the five districts due to the bandh by red rebels.

Demanding immediate arrest of the accused in gang rape of a minor in Kunduli, a check on violence against tribal women and solution to Mahanadi water row, the Bansadhara-Ghumusura-Nagabali division of the CPI (Maoist) is observing the bandh.

Maoists have blocked NH-59 by placing tree logs near Tagada bridge, Baliguda and Tumudibandh.

Besides, banners have been put up by Maoists at several places urging people to make the complete bandh successful.

On Bhawanipatna-Rayagada route, there is a complete halt to vehicular traffic.

Government buses have also stopped operations on six routes in view of the bandh.

The gang rape, against which the maoists have called the bandh, took place on October 10 in which a student of class nine was allegedly tortured by four men in combat uniform near Kunduli in Koraput district.
