Bhubaneswar: Claiming responsibility for the deadly attack killing    25 CRPF jawans in Chhatisgarh’s Sukma region on April 24, the Maoists said their main objective was to avenge death of their cadres last year.

Issuing an audio recording, Nikhil, spokesperson of Dandakaranya Zonal Committee, a left wing extremist (LWE) zonal outfit said they orchestrated the ambush attack at Sukma to avenge death of 24 red ultras last year on Malkangiri-Andhra border and tribals at Gumudumaha.

The ultras have issued a warning against security personnel engaged in the area asking them not to risk their lives for the sake of government. Terming the government as oppressor, the LWE group, through the audio tape, has also appealed them to work for protection of the backward and oppressed tribals.

The red ultras also said the attack was meant to protest blatant harassment and torture of backward tribals at the hands of police and administration.
