Malkangiri: The panicked villagers of Kadvata village under Mathili police station limits in Malkangiri district have deserted their village apprehending Maoist onslaught.

Barring a handful of women and children, there is no one in this remote village as the tribals have taken shelter in the house of their kin in neighbouring villages.

Notably, a majority of tribals of this village who were the Maoist sympathisers, had recently surrendered before the police while expressing their unwillingness to support the Red Rebels.

After coming to know of the incident, the Maoists had asked the tribals to leave the village following which the later had requested the police to provide them with adequate protection.

This morning, a group of armed Maoists came to the village and conducted a Praja Court (people’s court) where they asked the villagers to leave the village at once failing which they would be punished in the Praja Court. Fearing their lives, the terrified villagers left their village and took shelter in the house of their kin in the nearby villages.

“The Maoists came to the village this morning and asked us to leave the village failing which they would severely punish us. We have to leave our village as we have no other way. We are deeply concerned over the fate of our family members as some of them are still living in the village,” said a villager.
