Malkangiri: A hardcore Maoist couple, with a price of Rs 2 lakh each on their heads, surrendered before the Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena today.

The couple, Bijal Kadme and Soni Oyam, both residents of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh, were involved in naxal activities since 2008.

As per reports, they were involved in various naxal activities in Malkangiri and Koraput districts of Odisha. There are more than 17 cases registered in their names in Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

They decided to join the mainstream after being tired of the hollow Maoist ideology.  "I left the outfit as the leaders are harassing people, extorting money from them and working for their own interests. They claim that they are fighting for the tribals but instead killing them in name of being police informers," said Kadme.

Meanwhile, police has decided to give the reward money of Rs 4 lakh to them to help them start a new life, said sources.

"Two Maoists have surrendered today, both residents of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh. They were in the military wing of a Maoist organisation. Bijal Kadme had joined the Naxal movement in 2008 and Soni Oyam in 2009. They were operating in some parts of Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh," said SP Meena.
