Baripada: A man and a widow were beaten up after being tied and then paraded on the streets by a Kangaroo Court in Mayurbhanj over having an extra-marital affair.

The incident occurred in Ambajoda village under Betanati police limits where the duo was lynch-mobbed.

According to sources, on Tuesday, a Kangaroo Court (Peoples’ Court euphemistically stated) sat down to find why the concerned man was visiting the woman’s place regularly and what relationship they shared.

However, the Kangaroo court did not find the duo’s response satisfactory and pronounced its judgement to punish them.

After getting information, the Police reached the spot and rescued the victims and also arrested 12 persons in connection with the incident.

“A meeting was arranged and it looks like some inebriated persons triggered an altercation which resulted in a riotous situation. However, we received the complaint in time and have handled the matter. 3 cases have been registered and a total of 12 persons have been arrested,” said IIC of Betnati Police Station, Minati Biswal.
