Bhubaneswar: Draped in a magenta saree, this woman, in the first look, is picture perfect. Her kohled-eyes, shiny cheeks, luscious lips and a black bindi add to her personality that may not be a 36-26-36 figure but certainly with a ‘proportionate’ vital statistics. She walks as if she sways, she talks as if she oozes sweetness, her look endears and her demeanour leaves nothing to be desired. Meet Sister Sridevi, the woman who is actually a man! Babusan!

Losing weight from a whopping 110 kgs to 73 kgs just because the role demanded that, Ollywood heartthrob Babusan has been into a literal grind to fit into the specifications. A Tarang Cine Productions’ film, Sister Sridevi deals with the story of a man who badly wants to act in a theatre and goes to the extent of agreeing to act as a woman. ‘’Its a real life situation story and could be the dilemma of any artist wanting to get a role or a break. Simple and sober, the film is completely relatable to people and am sure will touch the hearts,’’ says Babusan  speaking to OTV.

The hero who is tagged as the chocolate boy in Odisha, however, agrees to the gruelling time he had shooting the film. ‘’It was damn difficult for an impatient person like me. I normally cannot stay with the makeup man for more than 15 minutes but for this character, I had to patiently wait for three hours! Hats off to the make up professional from Mumbai who tolerated me for long. Moreover, I had to shed weight and make my waist size ‘acceptable’ to the director Ashok Pati. In fact, I owe my transformation for this film to him and Ranjan sir and Tarang, for, they trusted and reposed faith on me to shoulder the movie,’’ says the actor with a sense of indebtedness.

Seen in romantic roles and achieving a fair degree of success in Ollywood, Babusan feels playing a woman has thrown a new challenge to him to prove his versatility. ‘’I was looking for a different character to grow as an actor. Since long, I felt, a sense of stagnancy was creeping in by doing characters in the same genre. So Sister Sridevi came as a blessing and I am so happy being associated with the movie slated for a Raja release. I feel at the end of it all, the film has been a learning experience for me,’’ says Babusan as he gets ready for the dubbing.
