Mayurbhanj: Tension ran high in Bhurudubagi village under Udala police limits of the district after a person was beaten black and blue being tied up by the villagers suspecting his intentions on barging into a woman's house here on Saturday night.

According to sources, one Satyanand Panda of the village had gone to a woman's house late last night. However, suspecting his intentions on visiting her home during such odd hour, the irate villagers tied him up and thrashed him mercilessly.

Even the women of the village thrashed Satyananda until police rushed to the spot and rescued him from their shackles.

"The incident occurred at around 11.30 pm last night when I saw Satyananda entering into the woman's house. He stayed inside for some 30 minutes following which I suspected something fishy and went to see what's transpiring. However, we caught hold of him while he was trying to escape and run away from the house. We tied him and beat him up later," said a villager.

"After a lot of tussle, we managed to rescue Satyananda. We have detained him for interrogation. However, no complaint has been registered against him yet," said a police official.
