Jagatsinghpur: A man was allegedly stabbed to death by a neighbour following a scuffle at Murunia village under Balikuda block in Jagatsinghpur district last night.

As per sources, the deceased identified as Bibhuti Rout had an argument with his neighbour Babu Khatua over some issues during a melody programme in the village yesterday. In a fit of rage, Babu allegedly stabbed Bibhuti with a knife.

Later, locals rushed Bibhuti to Jagatsinghpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where doctors declared him brought dead. Meanwhile, accused Babu has absconded after the incident.

On receiving information, police reached the village and have started investigation.

"I was in Cuttack when my paternal aunt called me at around 11 pm and informed about the incident. My uncle was returning home after watching a melody programme in the village and he was cracking jokes with a neighbour, whose son Babu Khatua was in an inebriated condition. Babu took the matter seriously and attacked him. There was no previous enmity between them," said Bibhuti's nephew.
