Dhenkanal: In yet another incident of man-animal conflict in State, a labourer was trampled to death by a wild elephant near Goudakateni canal under Motanga police limits in Dhenkanal district today.

The deceased has been identified as Gobinda Chandra Debata, a resident of Brahmapur village in Banki in Cuttack district.

Gobinda was engaged in some construction work near Goudakateni canal when the elephant attacked him. He died on the spot.

On getting information about the presence of a herd of elephant in the area, forest officials rushed the spot and have started an operation to drive back the herd into the forest.

As four people have been killed in separate elephant attacks in the last four days, resentment is now brewing among locals. Two persons were killed after they were attacked by wild elephants in two separate incidents in Dhenaknal district on April 12.

The victims were identified as Niranjan Mohanty of Damodarnali village and Achyuta Rout of Chaulia village in the district.

Another person, Daitari Sahoo of Boulapur village under Sadar police station was attacked by an elephant on April 10. Though Sahoo was rushed to SCB Hospital and Medical College (SCBMCH) in Cuttack, he succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.
