Bhubaneswar: A man attempted suicide by jumping into the Royal Bengal Tiger enclosure at Nandankanan Zoological Park on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Friday.

According to reports, Prakash Pani, a resident of Balikuda was rescued after jumping into the enclosure 31 (A) and (B). Pani, who works as an electrician was later handed over to Nandankanan police.

Sources said Pani scaled the 20 ft fence of the enclosure and was spotted by a few staff of the zoo at around 4 pm. The alert personnel immediately swung into action and initiated measures to drive back the two tigers- Nandan and Bahubali into their cages inside the enclosure.

“The staff pelted stones and after 5 to 10 minutes, they were successful in driving the tigers back into the cages and rescued Pani,” said a visitor.

Though the exact reason behind Pani resorting to such extreme step is still unknown, he is being interrogated by the cops.
