Balasore: The Balasore police today nabbed a man while trying to deposit fake notes amounting to Rs 44,000 at the Khirikana Cooperative Society in Soro.

The accused, identified as Bishnu Nayak of Biranchipur village in the district, was trying to deposit 22 counterfeit notes of Rs 2000 denominations.

Nayak was arrested after the Secretary of the Cooperative Society, Achyutananda Dash filed an FIR with the Simulia police station.

According to reports, Nayak was trying to deposit cash amounting to Rs 1.50 lakh, when the official at the cash counter detected the fraud.

"The bank staff found that the cash included 22 notes of Rs 2000 in counterfeited currency. Interrogation of the accused is on and we are trying to trace the origin of these fake notes," informed Sanjay Kumar Parida, Simulia police station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC).
