Man held for abducting, raping minor sister-in-law

Phulbani: A 23-year-old man was arrested in Kandhamal district for allegedly kidnapping his own sister-in law and raping her through the course of a week, police said today.

The accused, identified as Sangram Gantayat of Dasapalla in Nayagarh district, was arrested on Monday after an FIR was lodged by the girl's mother, said Gochhapada police station in-charge, Mrutunjay Pradhan.
The girl, who is aged about 14 years, has been rescued from captivity, the police said adding medical tests of both were conducted.

As per the complaint lodged by the girl's mother, her daughter was kidnapped on May 16 from her house and then raped repeatedly at different places in the Gochhapada area, the police officer said.

The girl has been handed over to the district child welfare committee, which sent her to a short stay home run by Childline in Phulbani town, he added.
