Balasore: In another case of gender disparity, a man dumped his one-year-old daughter under a tree at Mendhagadia village under Soro block in Balasore block on Saturday evening.

The man identified as Kailash Chandra Sahoo of Itua village was married to daughter of one Mayadhar Dey of Mendhagadia village.

Kailash was staying with his in-laws in the village for the last two years. Sources said, Kailash was unhappy as he wanted a baby boy as first child.

According to reports, Kailash forcibly snatched the infant from his wife's lap and later abandoned her under a tree on Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya road. The incident occurred when couple had gone to the hospital with the baby girl yesterday.

"We had gone to the hospital with the baby. While returning, my husband started quarreling with me and snatched the child from me. After returning home, I informed the matter to my father, who rushed to the spot to search for my daughter," said the infant's mother Pabitra Dey adding that the baby was spotted later in the evening by local villagers at around 7 pm yesterday.

Irate over the incident, locals then thrashed Kailash for leaving his daughter at an isolated place to die. On getting information, police rushed to the village but failed to nab Kailash as he managed to escape the spot.
