Cuttack: Setting an exemplary precedent, Laxminarayan Panda of Cuttack has donated his son Subhankar's eyes, just a day after he drowned in river Mahanadi.

Though in mourning, Laxminarayan is quite content to have done something good that will help a visually challenged to see beauty of life.  Through such act, he wants to keep his son alive. "If my son's organ is used for a challenged person, I will be happy. I donated my son's eyes today so that a visually challenged can see the world," Panda said with teary eyes.

Rotary Eye Hospital, which operated on the eyes, will soon transplant the same in another person. "We have called some needy people and the donated organs will be transplanted in one of them," said Alok Sahoo, administrative officer of Rotary Eye Hospital, Cuttack.

A plus II first year student Subhankar drowned in the river on Saturday while trying to rescue his friend from river current. However, both met the watery grave. Later , their bodies were fished out by fire brigade personnel.
