Salepur: In a bizarre incident, a man died of a freak mishap after the loaded gun of a security guard of the State Bank of India (SBI)’s Kendupatna branch suddenly went off inside the bank this morning.

Reports said Trilochan Samal, a native of Kendupatna had come to the bank in the morning for a work. In the meanwhile, security guard of the bank Gajendra Malla of Chahapada village under Jagatpur police station limits, posted at the entrance door of the bank, accidentally pulled the trigger of the gun he was holding. As a result, the bullet hit the left thigh and right hand of Samal. The seriously injured bank customer was rushed to Salepur Community Health Centre (CHC) from where he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Following information, Salepur police rushed to the bank and detained the security guard for interrogation. Police also seized his gun.

Talking to media persons, Amarjit Kumar Mohapatra, a bank employee, said the security guard was on duty when his finger accidentally fell on the trigger and as a result, the bullet hit the hand and thigh.

“It was freak mishap. While the banks have the provision for a security guard, incident of this kind is purely accidental and unfortunate,” he added.
