Man dies in patient’s attack at Rourkela hospital

Rourkela: In a shocking incident, a person undergoing treatment at Rourkela government hospital died after being attacked by another patient with an iron pipe late on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Sambhunath Mundari.

According to sources, one Jadab Munda was admitted to the hospital and allotted a bed beside Sambhunath’s bed. Late in the night, the Munda attacked Mundari with an iron pipe.

Bhala Mundari, brother of the deceased, said, “Munda thrashed my brother with an iron pipe. Seeing this, I tried to call security but in vain. Later, I went to sister’s room and asked them to call doctor. After checking my brother, the doctor declared him dead.”

Deputy CDMO of the hospital Sashanka Kabi Satpathy said, “The exact reason behind Munda attacking Mundari is unknown. Mundari sustained injuries on his heads in the attack and doctor declared him dead at around 5 am today.”

Being informed about the incident, police rushed to the spot and started investigation into the matter.
