Man dies in custody in Jajpur, family alleges police torture

Jajpur: A man, arrested on charges of involvement in a bomb attack, died after allegedly being tortured by police in Dharmasala of Jajpur district on Sunday.

The deceased, identified as Gayadhar Tarai of Kukudanga village was summoned to the Dharmasala police station on July 6 for his alleged involvement in a bombing case.

After he fell ill on Saturday, police shifted him to Dharmasala hospital where he succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.

The family members of the deceased alleged that Gayadhar was tortured in police custody and held the police personnel responsible for his death.

Meanwhile, Jajpur SP said legal action would be taken after the family members lodge a complaint.
