Man detained on charges of killing daughter for wife

Nuapada:  An eight-year-old girl has allegedly been killed by her father in a suspected black magic related sacrifice at Dhekunpani village under Komna police limits in Nuapada district.

Though the incident occurred on October 26, the matter came to light after police detained the father in connection with the incident today.

Sources said, the accused father resorted to such an extreme step following the advice of a local sorcerer, who had assured that the step would prevent his second wife from leaving his house.

It is believed that the man was mentally disturbed after his first wife had left him and family.

The incident has now raised questions on the awareness campaigns  being taken up by government and other voluntary organizations on curbing superstitious blind beliefs that are still prevalent in different parts of the State.

Yesterday, a man was arrested by Khandagiri police for allegedly attempting human sacrifice at Raghunath Nagar in Bhubaneswar.
