Rayagada: Making a mockery of the Janani Suraksha Yojana of the Odisha government yet again, a pregnant woman reached Kalyansinghpur Community Health Centre (CHC) in Rayagada district today after being carried on the shoulder of her husband today as the 102 ambulance did not turn up in time.

According to reports, Bangari Praska, a pregnant woman of Kansharikhola village fell sick due to anemia this morning. At this, the family members called up ASHA and Anganwadi workers.

After a check-up the health workers called up 102 and 108 ambulance. But neither of them turned up. Having no choice, Sombaru Praska carried his wife on his shoulder and reached Keshabanaiguda Chhak, about one km from his village.

After waiting for two hours, a 108 ambulance arrived and took woman to Kalyansinghpur CHC.

In a similar incident yesterday in Ghagudimal village of Kalyansinghpur block, a pregnant woman was carried to hospital on a cot in critical condition. After arriving at the hospital in Kalyansinghpur, she delivered the baby. But soon after the birth the infant died. The doctors treating the woman, referred her to Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where she breathed her last.
