Man beaten up, forced to eat human faeces for practising sorcery

Berhampur: A day after a man was lynched by a mob for allegedly practising sorcery in Daringbadi area of Kandhamal, another man was subjected to inhuman torture over similar allegations in Khallikote area of Ganjam district today.

According to sources, one Bhaskar Swain was beaten up severely with wooden plank after being tied to a pole in village road by locals at Naikanipalli village on suspicion of practising sorcery. He was also allegedly forced to eat human faeces, police said. Swain sustained critical injuries on face.

on being informed, Kodala police reached the spot and rescued him in a critical condition. Later, the officials admitted him to Kodala Community Health Centre (CHC).

Police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused.

Yesterday, an angry mob lynched one Subhas Chandra Majhi and cremated his body, suspecting him to be a sorcerer. Police have detained 10 suspects and interrogating them in this connection.
