Malkangiri: The dream of State government to impart quality education on the lines of Central school seems bleak as its own model schools – Adarsh Vidyalayas, opened in every district are grappling with infrastructure bottlenecks. One such school in Malkangiri sums up the state of affairs.
It has been two years since the school started its first academic session, but the required number of faculty members has not been fulfilled. With a strength of 254 students, the school requires 13 teachers in various subjects, but at present only eight are managing most of the classes.
"The post of Hindi (TGT) and computer teacher is vacant since long. Moreover, absence of hostel and difficulties in communication has also forced many students to migrate and take admission elsewhere. “Around 26 pupils have already taken TC (transfer Certificate) due to such infrastructural problems,” Principal Laxmi Narayan Acharya said.
Supply of textbooks and uniform are some other issues students are mired with. Moreover, lack of accommodation facilities have forced many students to leave for other schools.
The students said the school authorities had promised all facilities before entrance test. "They had told us to provide all facilities during our entrance examination. But we found no such facilities in the school. We are yet to get our uniform, textbooks even after two months of commencement of classes,” said Prakash Madkami, a student.
"We find it difficult to commute as there is no proper means of communication. It would have been better if the school had a hostel,' said Manohar, another student.
The District Education Officer (DEO) however promised to resolve the issues in a year.
"The school will get its hostel by the end of next year as the 100-seater hostel building construction for the same, is in progress. It will get over by the next year. The MDM system is good in the school though it is only for three classes - sixth, seventh and eighth as there is no such provision to provide lunch to Class IX students,” said Prashant Mohapatra, DEO, Malkangiri.
