Cuttack: A major train tragedy was averted after railway staff found fault in one of the bogies of Howrah-Puri Jagannath Express near Cuttack railway station late Monday night.

According to information, some railway officials noticed that an aluminium plate had slipped from the trolley spring of the train at around 2 am and immediately alerted the train driver.  After being informed about the fault, the driver immediately stopped the train near Home Cabin to Cuttack Station.

Authorities completed the repair works on a war footing and after some hours, the faulty bogey was detached from the train.

The train arrived at Cuttack railway station with 14 bogies at about 5 am and later departed towards Puri Station at 7.45 am.

Train services were partially affected in the up line. The railway authorities made temporary arrangements by allowing the trains to pass through the single line between Cuttack and Nergundi/Kendrapara Road stations.

Sealdah-Puri Duronto Express departed from Kendrapara Road at 04.05 am instead of 02.10 am. Howrah-Yeshwantpur Express which was halted between Nergundi and Kendrapara Road was rescheduled to leave at 02.23 am.

Similarly, Howrah Puri Weekly left Kapilas Road at 3.00 am, Haridwar-Puri Kalinga Utkal Express left Byree at 03.20 am, New Delhi-Puri Purushottam Express left Berithengada at 3.38 am, Howrah-Puri Express left Haridaspur at 04.07 am and Howarh Vascodama Amaravati Express was rescheduled from Jenapur at 04.32 am.
