Bhubaneswar: After Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik termed the facts presented in Parliament by Minister of State for Water resources, Sanjeev Balyan as misleading, BJD today said that it will move a privilege motion against him.

“The facts the MoS presented in Parliament on the projects on Mahanadi were false. A lot of facts were incorrect in his argument, which is only meant to mislead people on the issue. We want to bring a privilege motion against him for presenting such incorrect facts before the Lok Sabha,” said BJD MP Nagendra Pradhan.

Clarifying the party’s disagreement with Balyan’s statements, BJD spokesperson Pratap Deb said “The fact that the Chhattisgarh government informed us about the Kelo project in 2006 and waited till 2009 is completely false. Moreover, Chhattisgarh’s claim that they informed us about the Arpa-Bhainsjhar project in 2015 is also incorrect.”

Reacting to the BJD's decision to move a privilege motion against him, Balyan said “I presented the facts, which were made available to me by the Chhattisgarh government. Chhattisgarh government said that they shared DPR with the Odisha government and that is what I informed the house.”

Union Water Resources minister Uma Bharati also refuted the allegations made against Balyan saying that whatever the MoS said is not misleading and questioned why Odisha government did not act on the DPR sent by Chhattisgarh government immediately?

In his reaction, Union Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan said “If there are any disagreements on the facts presented, then the BJD members should present the counter-facts before the House.”

Taking a dig at Naveen Patnaik, Pradhan went on the say that what can be said about someone who is asleep while pretending to be awake.
