Bhubaneswar: The 12-member BJD delegation will be in Chhattisgarh today to conduct ground inspection of the projects being undertaken by the neighbouring State on river Mahanadi.

According to sources, the team has arrived in Jharsuguda yesterday from where it left towards Chhattisgarh. However, the team was shown black flags at Belpahad check post by BJP activists protesting the visit. As many as 10 BJP activists were detained by police for the same.

The committee headed by MP and BJD vice president Prasanna Acharya will visit the construction sites for spot assessment of the number of projects undertaken by Chhattisgarh, their effect on Odisha, the quantum of water flowing into Hirakud dam and how far the Chhattisgarh government has adhered to the guidelines, informed sources The team will also hold discussions with the officials of Chhattisgarh Water resources department during the two-day visit.

Ministers Debi Prasad Mishra, Pradeep Amat and Sanjay Ddasburma, along with BJD parliamentarians and technical experts, are part of the 12-member team.

The controversial Kelo and Arpa-Bhaisajhar projects, along with seven other construction sites on the river, are the places the BJD team is set to inspect.
