Bhubaneswar: In a sudden development, the ruling BJD today decided to send a high level delegation to Chhattisgarh to collect detailed information about the number of barrages and dams built on the upper catchments of Mahanadi and other projects which are in the pipeline.

Informing this to the media today, BJD spokesperson Sashi Bhusan Behera said the delegation, led by Rajya Sabha member Prasanna Acharya will visit the neighbouring state.

“The delegation, after its return to the state, will prepare a comprehensive report and submit to the Central Water Commission (CWC),” he added.

Meanwhile, the visit of the two senior engineers of the Hirakud Dam to Chhattisgarh scheduled tomorrow has been put on hold as per the order of the state government.

Though the Hirakud Dam authorities have informed this to the media, they have not given any specific reasons in this regard.
