Maha, MP, Telengana police and NIA seek remand of SIMI operatives

Bhubaneswar/Rourkela: With the 13-day remand of arrested five SIMI (Students Islamic Movement of India) operatives ended on Monday, national investigating agency (NIA) and police of other states have queued up for their custody.

Highly placed sources said, Maharashtra police and their Madhya Pradesh and Telengana counterparts along with NIA have filed petitions before the court for remand of these operatives.

Notably, the SIMI members who were arrested from Rourkela on February 7, will be produced in a court there tomorrow.
Police sources said, the Special Task Force (STF) is unlikely to extend remand of these operatives.

The four male members are charged with a series of terror and Jihadi activities across the country. Their connection with terror outfits outside India has also been established.

However, going by the interrogation reports, they did not plan any terror acts in Odisha which they used as a shelter place.

However, they had planned a series of heists in the State to raise money for sustenance as well as to support other outfits of SIMI.
