Bhubaneswar: Several places in Odisha received rainfall in the past 24 hours due to formation of a low pressure area over east-central Bay of Bengal, with the downpour likely to continue till July 11.

While almost all places in the state received rainfall, heavy rain was reported from one or two places in north coastal Odisha, IMD bulletin said.

The highest rainfall of 70 mm each was recorded at Raghunathpur in Jagatsinghpur, Garadapur in Kendrapara district, followed by 60 mm at Tirtol, Kujang and Alipingal in Jagatsinghpur district.

The state capital of Bhubaneswar and neighbouring Cuttack received 40 mm and 25.4 mm respectively with rain waterentering low-lying areas, revenue department officials said.

The relative humidity in the state capital was 100 per cent, they said.

Rainfall and thundershowers are likely to occur at a few places and heavy rainfall may take place at one or two places over the districts of north Odisha in the next 24 hours, the local Meteorological centre predicted.

However, the bulletin said that there will be decrease in rainfall from July 13.

The IMD also advised fishermen not to venture into sea as the conditions there would be rough.
