Bhubaneswar: The stalemate over the shifting of the Bhuasuni dumping yard at Daruthenga village on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar continued with no solution in sight as another round of talks between the Peace Committee of the village and the administration failing today.
The meeting was held at the Commissionerate police headquarters here in the presence of the police commissioner YB Khurania, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi and senior officials of Bhubaneswar Develop Authority (BDA).
“The Commissionerate police had assured us in the last meeting that the dumping yard would be shifted within 15 days. On the basis of its assurance, we had informed the villagers accordingly. But as the meeting failed today, we have decided to continue our agitation,” vice president of the Peace Committee Daktar Behera told media persons after the meeting.
The police commissioner said the state government has made its intention clear on the demand of the villagers. "If the villagers have any other demand, we have requested them to take them up with the government," he said.
In his earlier meeting with the Peace Committee, the police commissioner had said the dumping yard in Bhuasuni would not be shifted as per the directive of the Orissa High Court.
Tension had erupted in Daruthenga village on July 28 as the villagers clashed with police when BMC trucks reached the place to dump garbage there.
