Bhubaneswar/Berhampur: Kailash Chandra Sahu, a resident of Hinjili and scientist working at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STSI) of NASA, made Odisha and the country proud by weighing the mass of a distant star, which was said to be an impossible feat by even Einstein.

Residents of his village have congratulated him and expressed immense pride over Kailash’s success.

Expressing happiness over Kailash’s success, brother Subas Chandra Sahu, who lives in Belgaon village of Hinjili said, “He has done something which even Albert Einstein could not discover. We are proud of him.”

Kailash’s nephew Sushant Kumar Sahu stated, “Born in a small village and achieving such feat definitely fills our hearts with pride.”

After his schooling at the Gandala Ganesh Vidyapeetha, Kailash pursued higher education at Berhampur University and IIT Kharagpur. He did Ph.D in astronomy from the Gujarat University in 1985 and joined the STSI in 1995. Currently, Kailash, along with his family resides in the United States.

Kailash was conducting a research on Einstein’s theory of relativity at the STSI for a significant time and calculated mass of dwarf star Stein 2051B, the sixth-nearest white dwarf star to Sun.
