Keonjhar: Locals of Keonjhar town today garlanded an official of North Eastern Electricity Supply Company of Odisha Limited (NESCO) with shoes to protest undeclared power cut in the region.

As per reports, members of Keonjhar civil society gheraoed the NESCO office here demanding no power cut in the area. The protestors also wanted the Keonjhar division of NESCO to return the Best Electrical Division Award it had received.

Failing to get assurance form the NESCO officials, the protestors manhandled the sub-divisional officer Maheswar Sethy and forced him to wear a shoe garland.

However, they later released Sethy after getting written assurance of no power cut in the town.

“We are suffering in the scorching heat wave due to 8-10 hours of power cut. The electricity officials are not accessible and not even paying heed to our complaints,” said one activist Debu Patnaik.

“Repairing of old electric poles in the town would be started soon. Besides, establishment of a new electric grid is in the process following which the power cut issue would be resolved,” said Sethy.
