Balasore: Vehicular traffic on Balasore-Chandipur has been disrupted since this morning as locals have blocked the road near Jhumpura square demanding compensation for family members of two youths, who were electrocuted to death on DRDO campus.

The protestors are demanding ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each and a job for kin of the two labourers.

Local tehsildar and police reached the spot and tried to pacify the agitators.

Yesterday the two labourers were killed and five others, including a woman got critical due to an electric shock while installing street lights on Chandipur Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) campus.

The incident occurred on the DRDO’s Military Engineer Services (MES) premises when the labourers were digging the ground for installation of street lights.

During the process, the drilling machine came in contact with the under-wiring system of MES following which the labourers got an electric shock.

Two of them died on the spot whereas rest five were rushed to a hospital in a critical condition.
