Berhampur: A liquid Oxygen plant and ancillary gas pipelines will be installed at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.

The pipelines will pass through the beds of patients helping them get Oxygen when required, said Principal Arun Kumar Dandapat.

The government has sanctioned Rs 6-crore for the project that will be executed by the state-owned Odisha Medical Corporation (OMC).

At present, patients are being supplied Oxygen through cylinders.

Though there is a shortage of cylinders at times, "We hope this problems is solved with the setting up of the project," Dandapat said.

Construction of a 28-bedded central ICU is almost over in the hospital, while funds for building a 20-bed hospital has been sanctioned. The government has sanctioned Rs 39 lakh for the new ICU, said the Principal.

MLA (Berhampur) R.Ch Chyauptanik, who is a doctor, had moved the government for the oxygen plant and central ICU.

He urged the implementing agency to expedite construction of the Oxygen project. A tender is likely to be floated soon by the agency to invite bidders, he hoped.
