Baripada: Former Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Morada police station Rashmi Ranjan Das, who had remained untraceable for over four years since the the much-talked-about Lili Nayak case in Morada, surrendered in the court of Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) here on Tuesday.

The court later granted him conditional bail. The former OIC, however, did not say anything to the media after his surrender in the court.

Das had sought to pronounce Lili dead and even produced a body purported to be hers and booked her husband and brother-in-law for the 'murder'. But he went into hiding after his game was up when the supposedly dead Lili appeared in person in court a year after she went missing.

Lili Nayak's father had lodged a complaint with the Morada police about his missing daughter on May 23, 2012. In a bizarre twist to the case, Das, who was the then OIC of Morada police station, pronounced Lili dead and produced a body to prove his contention before arresting Lili’s husband and her brother-in-law and forwarding them to the court.

But the case turned on its head after Lili, suddenly appeared in the court a year after going missing.
