Bhubaneswar: After Dhauli, the world famous Sun Temple at Konark will soon also be presenting light and sound show, with the project entering the final stage.
According to sources as many as 250 visitors would soon be able to see the historic monument amid light and sounds for two hours simultaneously. Eight high definition laser projects have been installed on the premises of the 13th-century monument.
It may be mentioned here that the state government had signed an agreement for the project back in 2014. The Tourism and Culture department had released Rs 4.56 crore to the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) for the project. The work began after the blueprint prepared by the ITDC was approved by the Archeological Survey of India (ASI).
Besides project installation, control room, signal antenna and under cable works have also been completed. The visitors will now get to know about the history of the temple and see the Mukhasala (audience hall) and the Natya Mandap through projector.
"Tourists only used to come and see the historic monument but now they can know about its history and significance with images, laser beams and sounds,"said an ASI official.
The project was sanctioned three years back along with light and sound shows at Dhauli and Khandagiri-Udayagiri caves but it could not be implemented due to administrative delay on the part of the ASI.
