Puri: In a move that will allow lifeguards intervene timely and help save precious lives during mishaps at sea, Odisha Fire Services has deployed a high-speed Jet Ski at Ramachandi beach.

The deployment comes as part of the strategy to augment resources with an aim to minimize response time in rescuing persons, mostly tourists in beaches.

Official sources said the 1500 HP Jet Ski which can attain speeds of 100 kmph has been procured at an estimated cost of Rs 14 lakh.

Though nearly 200 lifeguards have been deployed, there is usually a delay in reaching the victims who drown far from the shore.
