Malkangiri: Panic has gripped Dakarijodi village in Malkangiri district after motion sensor camera captured activity of a leopard in the Saptadhara forest range here on Wednesday.

According to reports, complaints came pouring in from many villagers that a leopard was sighted at Gobindapalli Ghati in the district almost a month ago. Roaring of the feline at night had made the situation worse.

Being informed, forest officials installed motion sensor camera to track movement of the leopard as there were chances of leopard being present in the area. The month long suspicion turned true as a large leopard was captured in the CCTV footage following which panic has gripped Dakarijodi and nearby areas.

Forest department has launched a search operation to track the big cat. There is a high possibility of baby leopards being present in the area, informed a forest official.
