Cuttack: In a bid to ensure safety of people staying in hotels, lodges and guest houses Odisha Police on Saturday issued fresh guidelines for strengthening security at such public places in the State.

The fresh direction comes in the wake of recent incidents of terrorism and other heinous crimes in several parts of the country and world.

Official sources said, owners of hotels, lodges and other guest houses in Odisha have been asked to install CCTVs to cover entry, exit and other prominent locations.

Besides, DMFD, baggage and vehicle scanners should also be installed for proper screening, timely renewal of licenses of bar and playing of music at such places.

The hotel owners and staff have been asked to ensure timely registration and renewal as per Sarai Act with the respective district collectors and Commissionerate of Police.

DGP RP Sharma, in a letter to all superintendents of police and Commissionerate police, has directed for following the guidelines to ensure proper security measures in hotels.

As per the direction, hotel owners have been asked to conduct proper verification of the occupants before allotting rooms, verification of character and antecedent of the staff engaged and ensure that no illegal activities take place inside their property.
