Rourkela: Vigilance sleuths today arrested the Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology, Rourkela, Bidyadhar Biswal on charges of acquisition and possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

According to sources, officials of the anti-corruption wing have detected movable and immovable assets worth Rs 1,23,42,000 in the name of Biswal during simultaneous raids which were being conducted since yesterday.

As per sources, Biswal owns six plots worth Rs 18.76 lakh in his and his relatives' names, houses worth Rs 55 lakh, a car worth Rs 13 lakh, Rs 10 lakh bank deposit, Rs 1.37 lakh cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 17.59 lakh.

Acting on a complaint, a team of 25 Vigilance officials, including three DSPs had conducted raids at 5 places, including his office at Uditnagar in Rourkela. The officials had sealed his residential quarters at LIC Colony in the city since it was locked.

Moreover, Vigilance sleuths had also raided Biswal’s house at Pokhariput and his relatives’ house at Patrapada in Bhubaneswar along with his ancestral house at Nimikheta in Balugaon of Khurda district.
