Bhubaneswar: A new law for the benefit of sharecroppers will come into force from October this year, Revenue Minister Bijayshree Routray announced here on Saturday. The sharecroppers' bill will be tabled in the Assembly during the forthcoming monsoon session, he said.

According to sources, feedback is being taken from the public regarding the nomenclature of the law. Till now, reports have been received from 20 districts.

The State government proposes to provide land to 1 lakh landless families by August. Till now, around 52,000 families have benefited from this scheme, informed sources.

“Out of the 1 lakh persons who have been enumerated under the scheme, 52,000 have been provided land. The rest will be provided land by August,” said Routray.

The district collectors have also been ordered to expedite land acquisition for Railways, National and State Highways.

Routray also informed that the State government is planning to replace the stamp vending system with e-stamping.
