When asked whether the decision of quitting Congress and joining BJP was inspired by the recent turn of events including felicitation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi; Upasana claimed that it has nothing to do with the felicitation.

“It has nothing to do with Narendra Modi’s arrival or felicitation. It was a programme to honor the family members of the architects and martyrs of the Paika Rebellion and it was not political,” said Upasana.

The daughter of the firebrand leader claimed that Lulu Mohapatra had become silent from April 2016 till his death. He was not participating in any activities of Congress as he felt tortured in the party.
