Sambalpur: A day after the tragic road accident which claimed lives of ten people and left four others seriously injured, the last rites of the victims were held today.

Amid tears and gloomy atmosphere, villagers of Paramanpur took the bodies of the deceased in a procession for mass funeral.

Earlier on Monday, three people died on the spot while seven others succumbed to injuries at Burla Hospital after a Tata Magic carrying 14 passengers, all from Paramanpur village, met a fatal accident on NH-55 near Bhawanipalli under Jujumara police limits in Sambalpur.

Eye witnesses said the vehicle skidded off the road due to a tyre burst and collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction.

All the victims and injured were shifted to Burla Hospital where total 10 persons were declared dead while four others, including two women and two children, are undergoing treatment.

The State Government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for kin of the deceased and free treatment for all the injured.

Meanwhile, the truck has been seized while its driver has been detained.
