Berhampur: Berhampur Sadar Police on Tuesday took former Sanakhemundi Congress MLA Ramesh Jena and his associate and corporator of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC), Murli Mohan on one-day remand for interrogation In a land grab case.

Informing the media, Berhampur SP Ashish Kumar Singh said Sadar Police has registered a fresh land grab case against Jena and Murali for forcible possession of five acres of land of Radheshyam Math in Nimakhandi area.

“Apart from this, a complaint has also been lodged against Ramesh Jena in the Town Police Station for forcibly taking charge of the hundi and management of Kuthari temple in Gate Bazar in the city,” he added.

He further said till date, 22 cases have been registered against Jena in different police stations in Berhampur police district and three cases in Ganjam district.

Singh said the police till date has arrested 185 anti-socials during the special drive, 767 anti-socials under arrest warrant and 256 anti-socials in excise related crimes and seized 32 pistols from their possession.

“As per police records, there are still 300 criminals in the district and it will take at least a month to nab all of them,” he added.
