Lady passenger raped in bus; conductor, helper arrested

Bhadrak: Tension prevails in Bansada area in Bhadrak district following the alleged rape of a lady by the conductor and helper of a private bus inside the bus on Wednesday night.

The incident came to light after the victim lodged a complaint with the police yesterday.

As per the complaint lodged by the victim, she had boarded a Balasore-Chandinipal private bus at Nandapatana on Wednesday evening.

After the bus arrived at Chandinipal, all the passengers got down from the bus. As the victim was about to get down, the conductor and the helper told her to drop at Dosinga. While the bus was on the way, she was allegedly raped by the two bus staffs, who also looted her ornaments before dropping her off in a secluded place.

The hapless victim later informed the locals about the the incident, who halted the bus at Dosinga last night while it was on the way to Chandinipal. They dragged the conductor and helper out of the bus and informed the police.

Following information, Bansada police and Dhamara Outpost police rushed to the spot and rescued the woman and arrested the conductor and helper.

Talking to OTV over phone, Bansada IIC Paresh Kumar Mohanty said as per the complaint lodged by the victim, the accused after promising to drop her at Dosinga took her to a nearby hotel and offered her food mixed with drugs. After consuming the food, she lost her consciousness. The duo then took her to a secluded area and raped her and looted her ornaments. Then they fled the area leaving the victim there.

“After the victim narrated the incident to the locals, they stopped the bus last night while it was on the way to Chandinipal and detained the accused. The police rushed to the spot and rescued the victim and arrested the accused. We will send the victim and the accused for medical examination today and take necessary action after the investigation,” the IIC informed.
