Keonjhar: The lady lecturers of Keonjhar Government Engineering College today brought physical and mental harassment charges against one of their senior lecturers.

As per allegations, lecturer Nimai Charan Patel had sent messages and emails late night to one of the lady lecturers.

The lady lecturers have also alleged that their initial complaint filed before the principal was deliberately suppressed following which four lady lecturers approached the district administration with their complaint.

According to sources, following directions from the district administration, the District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) has begun a probe into the matter. As a part of its investigation, the DSWO has questioned the accused and the victim separately.

“In an internal committee report we had informed that we were being harassed. However, no steps have been taken on our complaint. On the other hand we are being exploited in different ways and situations are being so created that we don’t even feel like coming to the college,” said a victim lecturer.

However, the accused lecturer has refuted the charges. “There is no truth behind these allegations. After inquiry the truth will come out,” said Patel.

“Till the time we are through with our investigations, the accused cannot be named. We have received the complaint and the committee is conducting an inquiry into the matter,” said DSWO, Bijaylaxmi Raidu.

Earlier, unsatisfied with the probe by a committee constituted by the college principal, the lady lecturers had sent written complaints to the State Commission for Women and the secretary of the Technical Education department.
