Sundergarh: What Bonai residents see as fearless and daring act of an IAS officer Swadha Dev, Wesco officials protest as brutal. Dev, the sub-collector of Bonai, filed a complaint with the police after locals bore the brunt of power cut that stretched over two consecutive days. Basing on the complaint, three Wesco officials were arrested.

When the two day long power cut from September 13 affected locals and disrupted health services in the region, the firebrand 2014 batch lady IAS officer took up the case.

Her complaint not only led to arrest of top Wesco officials including the Sub-Divisional officer (SDO), a junior engineer and another employee, the officials were reportedly not given food in the lock up on her directions. Wesco Service Engineers’ Association members today met the district collector over the issue.

“We tried our best to restore power supply but failed. But this action was unfortunate,” said Achyutanand Meher, senior engineer, Wesco.

The Collector Vineet Bharadwaj said that in future if both parties respond properly, such a situation will not arise. “When we have a power supply issue in future, Wesco and administration will resolve it together,” he said.
