Rourkela:  Tension prevailed at Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) after a labourer sustained critical burn injuries in a mishap on the plant premises on Saturday.

According to reports, a ladle containing around 150 tonne hot liquid metal snapped off a crane and fell on the labourer identified as Sahil Kumar Purti.

The incident occurred when Sahil was working in the steel melting shop (SMS-II) at the RSP. Following the mishap, Sahil was rushed to Ispat General Hospital (IGH) and is reportedly undergoing treatment in the ICU. He has sustained over 70 per cent burn injuries, medical sources said.

Official sources said Sahil is likely to be shifted to SUM Hospital in Bhubaneswar or any other premier hospitals in the twin city shortly.

Sahil’s brother Dilip Purti said, “The IGH doctors have referred him to SUM Hospital in Bhubaneswar. I want the RSP authorities to bear all the medical expenses and extend assistance till he recovers completely.”
