Bhubaneswar: A day after Kunduli gang-rape survivor committed suicide, BJD MP Tathagat Satpathy today came down heavily on the police administration under Home Department for trying to hush-up the matter.

In a write-up published in an Odia daily edited by him, the MP accused the police department of not undertaking investigation seriously in a bid to suppress the matter. "Right from the officials at police station-level to the higher ups, all had remained mute in a bid to cover up the incident," he wrote.

Satpathy further stated that January 22 (the day when the survivor committed suicide) will be remembered as a black day for Odisha Police.

It is quite evident from her suicide that the police statements and medical report were false as the survivor girl had repeatedly said that all accused were police personnel, Satpathy stated.

"The police officials and doctors, who had played an active role to prove the girl's version false, must be busy celebrating their success", the MP maintained.

Rather than giving her justice, police had attempted to insult and weaken the survivor mentally by dubbing her as liar instead. Even the investigation by Crime Branch and a judicial inquiry bore no fruit, he pointed out.

Terming the entire episode as a matter of great concern, the Parliamentarian in his column rued that the incident elucidates victory of evil over good which is a great worry for the civilised society.
